Yahoo! Guidelines

We have additional detailed guidelines for specific Yahoo! products and services.

Yahoo! Pulse Community Guidelines

The Yahoo! Pulse Community Guidelines will help acquaint you with being a member of Yahoo! Pulse and are offered to ensure that everyone within the community has the positive experience they want.

In addition to the Pulse Community Guidelines, use of Yahoo! Pulse is subject to the Yahoo! Community Guidelines and the Yahoo! Terms of Service.

Violating the Yahoo! Pulse Community Guidelines or the Yahoo! Terms of Service may result in a warning or in the termination of your Yahoo! ID and, consequently, access to all other Yahoo! services. For safety reasons, children under the age of 13 are not permitted to use Yahoo! Pulse.

Things to do on Yahoo! Pulse

Do share your experiences
Share what’s happening in your life and what’s interesting to you and to your friends. Complete your profile information so that colleagues or classmates and people with similar interests can connect with you. Make new friends and see the world through other people’s eyes. You can also react to what your friends post by replying with your own comment or by simply clicking on “like.”

Do create your stories
Upload photos and compose blogs that you can share with your connections or with anybody on the Web. Let people who are interested in your stories subscribe to your RSS feed so that they’ll get your new posts automatically.

Do play nice
We're a global community of many types of people, including teens, who all have the right to feel comfortable and who may not think what you think, believe what you believe, or see what you see. Please be respectful. Give your connections the same consideration you'd give them in person, and treat them the way you'd like to be treated.

A bit of respectful debate is healthy! We all have the right to express our beliefs in a safe and respectful environment. Agree to disagree — respectfully — in the interests you list, in the interactions you have within blog comments and photo comments, and in all other communications.

Do moderate your content.
You need to take responsibility for ensuring that what you post or upload is appropriate for the community. If you’re unsure whether content is appropriate or consistent with the Yahoo! Pulse Community Guidelines or the Yahoo! Terms of Service, please err on the side of caution and do not post it to Yahoo! Pulse.

Things not to do on Yahoo! Pulse

Don’t upload content that is illegal or prohibited.
Photos, text, or other content that violates state, federal, or local law does not belong in our community. If you post it, we will remove the content and take further action as appropriate, which may include terminating your account and reporting you to the appropriate local authorities.

Don’t upload photos, text, or other content that violates copyright or other intellectual property laws.
Respect copyright and other intellectual property rights of third parties. You may post copyrighted content only with permission from the owner. If you post infringing content, we will remove your post and terminate your account.

Don’t try to stir up trouble.

Content that is violent, racist, incendiary, obscene, or otherwise objectionable does not belong on Yahoo! Pulse. If you post it, we will remove your content and may terminate your account.

Don’t harass members of the community.
Yahoo! Pulse is not a place to “yell” by typing in all caps, harass, abuse, impersonate, or intimidate others. Posting identical messages repeatedly to other users’ blog comments, photo comments, guestbook message, or other communication channels is annoying, so don’t do it. Being a valued member of our community includes being considerate and respectful of others. If we receive a valid complaint about your conduct, we’ll send you a warning or we may terminate your account.

Don’t use Yahoo! Pulse for commercial purposes.

If you post solicitations or advertisements selling goods, services, or yourself, we will remove the content and may terminate your account.

Don’t forget the teens.
Think before you post content. If you would hesitate to show what you're about to post on Yahoo! Pulse to a teenager, your mother, or Uncle Bob, that means you probably shouldn't post it on Yahoo! Pulse. So please take a moment to think about who might see your content. Moderate accordingly.

Other points to keep in mind

Other people (their content, their behavior)
You will see all sorts of things on Yahoo! Pulse, some of which you may disagree with or may even offend you. If you are offended by a blog, photo, or other user-created content, either click away or, if you think it violates these guidelines or the Yahoo! Terms of Service, please click the “Report Abuse” link and report it to Yahoo!.

Copyright infringement
If you see your blog entries, photos, or other content that you’ve created in another person’s blog or photo pages without your permission, don't panic. It may be a misunderstanding, and you can always contact the person directly and politely ask him or her to remove it. Alternatively, you may file a notice of infringement with Yahoo!’s Copyright Agent.

Yahoo!’s response to violations
Yahoo! does not edit your personal information, blogs, photos, or other content you’ve created. But we reserve the right to remove content and/or terminate your account without notice (a) that Yahoo!, in our sole discretion, determines is inappropriate and/or violates these guidelines or the Yahoo! Terms of Service, or (b) if Yahoo! believes you have violated or tried to violate the rights of others.
