Yahoo! Go and Mobile Devices
Yahoo! takes your privacy seriously. This overview should help you understand Yahoo! Mobile's key privacy practices.
Your use of Yahoo!’s mobile products and services is also subject to the Yahoo! Privacy Policy. To view the current version of this policy, please visit: http://info.yahoo.com/privacy/ph/yahoo/.
Mobile Device Unique Identifier
When connecting to Yahoo! via a service provider that uniquely identifies your mobile device, Yahoo! may receive this identification and use it to offer extended services and/or functionality. Certain Yahoo! services may require our collection of your phone number. We may associate that phone number to the mobile device identification information. However, we will not use that phone number for telemarketing unless you have given us permission to do so.
Physical Location
Yahoo! obtains your consent (an opt-in) before using information from pinpointing technology such as GPS and cell tower information. This information enables Yahoo! to establish the approximate location of your mobile device. Yahoo! may use and store this information, in combination with other location-based information such as IP address or registration location, to provide enhanced location based services, serve location-targeted advertising, search results, and other content. You are able to withdraw your consent (opt-out) for the collection of your information in this way at any time by clicking on "Options" then "More" then "Disable Positioning", when in the map view (Yahoo! Go 3.0).
In addition, for example if you provide Yahoo! with postcode information, Yahoo! can establish your approximate location or the location of another area you may visit or are interested in.
Use of Information
Yahoo! will use and store the location based information it collects, or which you provide to Yahoo!, in order to provide the product or service you requested and to enable Yahoo! to comply with its legal obligations. We may also use anonymised location based information for the purpose of populating our cell ID network database (if any) with information about the geographical areas that certain cell IDs are located in.
Yahoo! does not rent, sell, or share your personal information with other people or non-affiliated companies, except to offer products or services you've requested, or under the following circumstances:
Legal Process
Yahoo! may share information about you, including personally identifiable information, to investigate, prevent, or take action against illegal activities, suspected fraud, emergency situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, or violations of Yahoo!'s Terms of Service or as required by law. We share information in response to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims.
Account Information and Preferences
You can edit your Yahoo! account information, including your marketing preferences, on a computer at any time. If you're not logged in, service limitations may prevent you from accessing the full functionality of Yahoo! services or tools while using mobile devices. In that case, you may need to use a computer to connect to Yahoo!.
Widgets
Yahoo! shares some information with third party mobile widgets. If you add a third party widget, we will share information such as your country, preferred language, your mobile carrier, device type and browser type if we have it. Third party widgets may also set cookies. Please note that third parties’ use of cookies is subject to their own privacy policies, and not the Yahoo! Privacy Policy.
