My Web

Yahoo! Search My Web Beta allows you to save a live link and a cached copy of a web page in your own searchable directory of sites. In addition, you can also use it to save a search history and share your links publicly or with your contacts. You must be a registered Yahoo! user and signed in to use My Web. This page details privacy practices for both versions of My Web currently available (My Web Beta and My Web 2.0 Beta). Sharing features are specific to My Web 2.0. You may toggle between the two versions.

Information Collection and Use Practices

  • When you first sign up for My Web 2.0, you will be asked to identify which email address you'd like to be associated with your use of My Web 2.0.
    • The email addresses displayed are from your Yahoo! Account Information. You may add to or remove these email addresses by clicking the link to add a new email address.
    • The email address you choose will not be shown by My Web unless you choose to share or display it.
    • The email address you choose will be used in the "From:" field for invitations you send.
  • You can choose to store a copy of a web page to My Web. If you do, Yahoo! will store a cached copy of the page for you to view.
    • This option is pre-checked by default. Uncheck the box if you don't want a cached copy saved.
  • Search History
    • When Search History is on, Yahoo! will remember sites you've visited from Yahoo! Search while you're signed into your account. This includes searches made from other Yahoo! pages and the Yahoo! Toolbar.
    • By default, Search History is off. You must turn Search History on for it to operate. If you don't want pages you visit to be remembered, turn off Search History or sign out of your Yahoo! account.
  • Advertising shown to you during your use of My Web may be related to or based on search terms you entered and the notes and metadata for the pages you save.
  • We will use information about your activity on this service to improve Yahoo! Search, My Web, and other Yahoo! products and services.
  • My Web 2.0 includes a message center which is sometimes used by My Web to communicate with you. This is where we send messages notifying you that someone added you as a contact.
Information Sharing and Disclosure Practices
  • Some of the personal information in your My Web Profile is displayed publicly, including nickname and information about you.
    • Your email address will not be displayed publicly unless you choose to share or display it. However, it will be used in the "From:" field of invitations you send.
  • You can specify whether or not you want web pages you save to be accessible to the public, accessible to a select few, or private (that is, only you can access them with your Yahoo! ID and password).
    • When you share web pages, your personal cached copy is not shared. Only the page URL, title, tags, and description are shared.
  • Contact lists
    • Your My Web contact list is public.
    • Contact lists are unidirectional, meaning you do not need approval from the other person for them to appear on your contact list and, vice versa, they do not need your approval for you to appear on their list. What that means is that you can appear on someone else's contact list even if you haven't added them to your contact list.
    • Contact lists in earlier iterations of My Web were based on your Yahoo! 360° friends list. We have since separated your My Web contact list from your 360° friends list. If you used My Web in those earlier versions, your contact list is still based off that earlier set of 360° friends although they will no longer be kept in sync.
  • If you have a 360° profile, it will be linked to from My Web. However, you do not need to use 360° to use My Web.
  • My Web provides RSS feeds of publicly saved pages. Anyone can ask their RSS reader to show the latest pages you've saved as being accessible to the public.
  • You can instant message (IM) or email your saved pages to others.
Practices Regarding Your Ability to Update or Delete Information
  • You can delete or change sharing permissions for pages you save to My Web.
  • You can edit your profile to change the email address associated with your use of My Web, the picture used, and other information you supply about yourself.
  • You can change the default sharing permissions and other settings through the My Web Preferences page.
    • My Web Beta Preferences
    • My Web 2.0 Beta Preferences
  • To clear the sites stored in Search History, visit your Search History page and choose "Clear" in the left hand column.
    • My Web Beta Search History
    • My Web 2.0 Beta Search History
  • When you use My Web, you are subject to the Yahoo! Terms of Service.
  • Please see My Web Help if you have questions about this service.
