Yahoo! Desktop Search Beta is a program you can install on your computer to index and search the contents of your PC. Yahoo! Desktop Search Beta uses technology licensed by X1. You do not need to be a registered Yahoo! user to use Yahoo! Desktop Search Beta .
Information Collection and Use Practices
- Yahoo! Desktop Search Beta periodically contacts a Yahoo! server to indicate that it's still being used. This information is used to track the number of Yahoo! Desktop Search Beta programs in use and includes Yahoo! cookies, if present, and a unique identifier. It does not contain query or usage information
- With your permission, Yahoo! Desktop Search Beta will periodically send a file containing anonymous usage and crash data to Yahoo!.
- This information is used to help us fix bugs and to improve Yahoo! Desktop Search Beta and other Yahoo! products and services.
- You may turn logging options on or off at any time through the Options dialog under the Tools Menu.
- You can choose to sign into your Yahoo! account so that Yahoo! Desktop Search can conduct a search of your Yahoo! Messenger archive and/or Yahoo! Address Book.
- If you choose to index your Yahoo! Messenger archive and/or Yahoo! Address Book, that information will be searchable within Yahoo! Desktop Search even if your computer isn't connected to the Internet.
- When signing into your Yahoo! account, you'll be given the choice to save your password and automatically sign in when opening a browser window from Yahoo! Desktop Search. If you choose to save your password, Yahoo! Desktop Search will automatically sign in each time it begins to index your Yahoo! content.
- While signed in, Yahoo! Desktop Search may display personal information available in files on your computer and Yahoo! Address Book.
- Yahoo! Desktop Search Beta contains a web search feature that returns search results pages from Yahoo! Search in a browser window.
- Search results pages often contain advertising in the form of sponsored search results, banner advertisements or other promotions. Advertising shown to you while on Yahoo! may be related to the search query you entered.
Information Sharing and Disclosure Practices
- Yahoo! may share anonymous crash data with X1 to help diagnose and correct issues you may experience with the program. This usage and crash data does not contain personally identifiable information.
- You may edit your preferences at any time. For example, you can change or delete your ID and password; you can also choose not to index certain types of files.
- To set your preferences, open Yahoo! Desktop Search, choose Tools from the top menu, then Options.
