Yahoo! My Web
Yahoo! MyWeb allows you to save a live link and a cached copy of a web page in your own searchable directory of sites. In addition, you can also use it save a search history and share your links with just your personal contacts or publicly. You must be a registered Yahoo! user and signed in to add entries to MyWeb.
This page details privacy practices for both versions of MyWeb currently available (MyWeb 1.0 and MyWeb Beta). Sharing features are specific to MyWeb.
Information Collection and Use Practices
- When you first sign up for MyWeb, you are asked to identify which email address you'd like associated with your use of MyWeb.
- The email addresses displayed for you to select from are from your Yahoo! Account Information. You may select one of these addresses or add an email addresses by clicking the "add a new email" link.
- Your MyWeb selected email address is not displayed in MyWeb unless you choose to display it publicly or in an invitation.
- Your MyWeb selected email address will be displayed in the From field for invitations you send.
- MyWeb includes a message center which is used by MyWeb to communicate with you.
- This is where messages are sent notifying you that someone added you as a contact.
- You can choose to store a copy of a web page to MyWeb. If you do, Yahoo! will store a cached copy of the page for viewing.
- Storing a cached copy is the default selection. Uncheck the "Store Cached Copy" box if you don't want a cached copy saved.
- Search History
- By default, Search History is off. You must turn Search History on for it to operate. If you don't want pages you visit to be remembered, turn off Search History or sign out of your Yahoo! account.
- When Search History is on, Yahoo! will remember sites you've visited from Yahoo! Search while you're signed into your account. This includes searches made from other Yahoo! pages, affiliated Yahoo! Search partners, and certain downloadable products such as the Yahoo! Toolbar.
- Data collected on MyWeb can be used for the following purposes:
- Advertising shown to you may be related to search terms you entered and the notes and metadata for the pages you save.
- Your activity on this service will be used to improve Yahoo! Search, MyWeb, and other Yahoo! products and services.
Information Sharing and Disclosure Practices
- Some of the personal information in your MyWeb profile is displayed publicly, including your selected nickname, about me (optional), and photo (optional).
- Your email address is not displayed publicly, however it is used in the From field of invitations you send.
- You can specify whether or not you want web pages you save to be accessible to the public, accessible to a select few, or private.
- When private, only you can access entries with your Yahoo! ID and password).
- When you share web pages, your personal cached copy is not shared. Only the page URL, title, tags, and description are shared.
- Importing
- You can import MyWeb bookmarks from several sources: Yahoo! Bookmarks, Browser Bookmarks, RSS feeds, and from del.icio.us. Imported bookmarks will initially be marked as Private.
- Contact lists
- Your MyWeb contact list is public.
- Contact lists are unidirectional, meaning you do not need approval of the other person for them to appear on your contact list and, vice versa, they do not need your approval for you to appear on their list. What that means is that you can appear on someone else's contact list even if you haven't added them to your contact list.
- Contact lists in earlier iterations of MyWeb were based off your Yahoo! 360 friends list. We have since separated your MyWeb contact list from your Yahoo! 360 contact list. If you used MyWeb in those earlier versions, your contact list is still based off that earlier set of Yahoo! 360 friends although they are no longer kept in sync.
- If you have a Yahoo! 360 profile, it will be linked to from MyWeb.
- You do not need to use Yahoo! 360 to use MyWeb.
- MyWeb provides RSS feeds of publicly saved pages. Anyone can ask their RSS reader to show the latest pages you've saved as accessible to the public.
- You can instant message (IM) or email your saved pages to others.
Practices Regarding Your Ability to Update or Delete Information
- You can delete or change sharing permissions for pages you save to MyWeb.
- You can edit your MyWeb profile to change the email address associated with your use of MyWeb, the picture used, and other information you supply about yourself.
- You can change the default sharing permissions and other settings through the MyWeb Preferences page.
- To clear the sites stored in Search History, visit your Search History page and choose "Clear" in the left hand column.
